This portrait was a double challenge - one was giving Bolton appropriately common looks according to Martin's description, the other was making it look like a 15th century painting in the tradition of Bellini and Antonello da Messina. I am afraid I failed at both - just another typical Pojything!

This is what I pictured in my head as I read the book. I didn't see a guy that looked like a serial killer or Dracula. I pictured someone plain looking and quiet. He's supposed to be the kind of guy you would never really notice....unless you looked into his eyes.

^Well said. He's the kind of character that you wouldn't remember at all until you legitimately noticed him, and then the eerie aura about him would be everywhere.....Fascinating character.

I really admire the depth of this piece. Far from being cartoonist or blatant in its portrayal of evil, it shows Roose how I perceived him. Quiet, reposed, intelligent, almost bland, and very dangerous. I felt all of this through your work, excellent job!

Quite similar to the visage I've got from the books. I really like the work you did with his eyes. It's really the only part of him that is supposed to speak any volumes IMO, and I believe you've captured them quite well!

And...unlike a lot of people I too imagine he'd keep short hair. He isn't Ramsay and that seems to suit him better.

Thanks! Well, truth be told, Roose's description is so vague (what even *is* an ordinary face after all) that I'm surprised there's any kind of consensus about him XD

Good picture. But I think it looks different. He did not have such a rude face. My opinion - he looks like Brad Dourif. [link] .Cold, pale, with light eyes.
PS what is the right spelling "Roose" like a "goose", or the other ?

Heh, my mental image of Roose Bolton has changed countless times over the years, this is just one of many :) I had kind of settled on a Michael Emerson kind of face lately because of the creept bug-eyed thing. But idk, GRRM has been obviously vague with his descriptions of the leech lord.

I pronounce Roose like "goose", but then I am not a native English speaker so I probably tend to read many names differently.
